JAY'S PRIORITIES
FOR NMB
1.Community Engagement: "Bringing Government Closer to the People".
Chernoff launched a community engagement initiative focused on connecting directly with residents outside of formal meetings. These gatherings are designed to allow residents to voice concerns, share ideas, and work collaboratively with leadership.
2. Public Safety and Community Policing Emphasis.
Chernoff has been publicly identified as focused on strengthening community policing efforts and
addressing the root causes of public safety concerns in the city. This includes advocating for effective police--community relations and public safety strategies in Commission discussions.
3. Improving Garbage Collection and Customer Service.
A recurring emphasis for Chernoff has been improving garbage collection services and municipal responsiveness, particularly in response to resident complaints--part of his broader platform on
operational efficiency and constituent services.
4. Fiscal Responsibility and Transparency.
Across his term, Chernoff has consistently advocated for fiscal responsibility, transparency in government spending, and reducing municipal taxes. While these are policy stances, they influence budgeting and Commission votes on city finances.
5. During his term, City Commission agendas have also included numerous planning and zoning matters —such as site plan approvals, alley vacations, development agreements, and comprehensive plan amendments—placing key land use policy decisions before the Commission among the most consequential governance issues addressed during that period.
